The Late Miriam Santiago Filed Pandemic Preparedness Bill in 2013, But It’s Still ‘Pending’

In 2013, nearly 7 years before the COVID-19 pandemic, the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago filed Senate Bill no. 1573, entitled the “Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act.” It aimed to prepare the country for pandemic and various hazards. China dialing back virus conspiracy claims, US says

© SUMY SADURNI  Chinese embassy officials help screen incoming passengers for the new coronavirus as they arrive at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on March 3, 2020 China has retreated from spreading conspiracy theories online in the developing world alleging US involvement in the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic after finding limited traction, a US official said. The State Department's Global Engagement Center, which is in charge of analysing and countering foreign propaganda, said China has shifted to praising its own successes in containing the virus and highlighting its delivery of aid abroad. "We assess that the PRC official messaging in Africa shows that they may have abandoned that disinformation campaign specifically saying that coronavirus had originated in the US," said Lea Gabrielle, the coordinator of the centre. "We're also seeing something similar in the Western Hemisphere," she told reporters. She said that analysis of Chinese go...

11 ways the novel coronavirus pandemic is eerily similar to the 1918 influenza outbreak

© Navy Medicine In 1918, social distancing measures like school shutdowns and travel restrictions were put into place in order to avoid spreading the Spanish flu, one of the deadliest events in history. From hourly workers panicking about lost wages to a cultural obsession with face masks, historians told Insider that both pandemics have a lot in common. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Closing stores, shutting down schools, wearing masks, and self-quarantining. In 1918, these were the social distancing methods used to mitigate the effects of the Spanish flu pandemic, and they're the same methods being used to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus more than 100 years later. Global pandemics tend to occur every 30 to 40 years, but experts have been warning for years that the world isn't prepared for...

These Are The Sacrifices Medical Workers Make To Fight Coronavirus
